Education in Ancient Egypt

The majority of Ancient Egypt was farmers, so, the majority of Ancient Egypt was uneducated.

The people that did get educated were the Pharaohs, Officials, and Scribes.

Scribes

Since most of Ancient Egypt was uneducated, and the two systems of Hieroglyphics were so hard to learn, only a certain amount of people learned how to read and write. They were considered very important, because of the importance of having a name in the afterlife.

Only men could train to become Scribes.

So, if you wanted to write a letter, or read it for that matter, you had to hire a Scribe.
